Hi! My name is Emily and I am a sophomore at ASU. I am studying Early Childhood and Special Education. I chose Taiwan for this project because I work at a Taiwanese tea shop and have been learning about the culture.
Although Taiwan is not recognized by the United States and by some other countries to be an independent nation of it's own, the people of Taiwan view themselves as their own country. Taiwan has its own president, military, and currency. It is unlikely that China will regain actual control over Taiwan again, but officially Taiwan is under China's rule and not technically and independent country. Taiwan is de facto independent but under China's rule de jure.
